My name is Ryan M Greer, and I was Born in Benton Harbor, MI. This is where it all began, a rollercoster of ups and downs with a accent of mystery. I am currently tring to finish up my BFA degree at the University of West Florida, and tring to show my art anywhere that will take me. My art was just accepted in the Atlantic Center for the Art's Fifteenth Annual "University Student Exhibition" - (Undergraduate and Graduate students of the South Eastern states) I was one of Five students in the state of Florida to represent the state of Florida. The Show starts in August of 2004 In Daytona Beach, FL and then will travel to Tallahassee, FL for a second show. I am currently working on a body of Work for the "Mobile Museum of Art - Southeastern Exhibition 2004"
I would Like to use this space to also show my artist statement as a working process of the creation of art: Artist statement below
As an artist of the present postmodern I refuse to fulfill the audience’s superficial expectations, and desire to create pre-determined fictions with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Viewers might wonder just what they can trust by taking things one step beyond into new realms of dissociation and social anarchy.
My focus is on creating imagery that evokes thoughts of harmony and introspection by adhering to the symmetry and movement in natural and industrial environments. My art is symbolic of human consciousness. The outcome is always the result of multiple decisions altered by experience and personal expression. The manipulation of limitless conclusions is the distinctive vitality of the human condition. My art is my way of making peace with the enigma of the individual existence. The desire for economical or social power and knowledge are trivial pursuits when contemplating art. Art is the satisfying occupation of exploring choice and motivation without the possibility of right and wrong
I engage and challenge viewers on an intellectual as well as an emotional and visceral level, refusing to spoon-feed and sugar-coat issues as an easily digestible moral or lesson. Instead, I insist that viewers think through for themselves the many provocative themes and issues my art broaches.
